Tartini - Devil's Trill (I. Larghetto affettuoso)
Sheet music for violin
Info: | The Violin Sonata in G minor, more familiarly known as the Devil's Trill Sonata is a work for solo violin by Giuseppe Tartini. The story behind "Devil's Trill" starts with a dream. Tartini allegedly told the French astronomer Jérôme Lalande that he dreamed that The Devil appeared to him and asked to be his servant. At the end of their lessons Tartini handed the devil his violin to test his skill—the devil immediately began to play with such virtuosity that Tartini felt his breath taken away. |

The artist: | Tartini has led a very varied life as a composer, violinist, theorist, and even a master swordsman! He wrote over two hundred concertos for the violin, as well as a similar number of chamber works for the instrument, predominantly influenced by Corelli and Vivaldi, but with a simpler tonal language. Unfortunately, Tartini's music is rarely found in the concert hall today, except for some notable transcriptions for wind instruments. |
